Independent retailers in Folkestone are starting to fight back in what they see as a war against chain stores taking over the town.

A small group of shop owners have banded together to make sure they stay afloat in this bad economy. The group plan to work together and show a united front against the recession and the bigger stores who they believe are taking over the town.

They call themselves the Folkestone Independent Traders Association (F.I.T.A) and they will be having their inaugural meeting on Monday 23 January.

Sue Sheppard, an independent trader in the town, came up with the idea because she believes small town need to keep their charm.
