With the fear of a double-dip recession and on-going supermarket wars it is possible that smaller stores will lose out.
Tesco Metro, one of the many supermarkets close by to Londis.
If the chains keep reducing prices to beat each other then eventually independent shops may be put out of business.

Supermarkets, in particualr, are guilty of this. By trying to out-do the competition in the bigger stores they are lowering their prices and offering more and more deals to the customers.

Eventually this is going to have a knock-on effect to the smaller independent greengrocers and convienence stores.

However, through all this, one local shop owner belives she will withstand the competition.

Kitty Patel, owner of Londis in Canterbury says she has what it takes to fight the big supermarkets and win. She is playing them at their own game by lowering a lot of prices in her own stores and offering more and more deals.

Yet, she still believes there is another reason that her customers will stay loyal to her. In Mrs Patel's opinion, customers return to her store because she offers something none of the big shops do - great customer service.
